Local Authority Credit Union

We’ve been empowering the local authority’s workforce since 1990.

Join Metro Moneywise

As a non-profit credit union, we want the hard-working employees who keep the country running to make most of their money and feel financially free.

We are a credit union with a common bond in the public sector, supporting all kinds of employees who work for local authorities, including Rochdale Local Authority, one of our loyal payroll partners.

24% of Rochdale Council’s workforce are members of Metro Moneywise, and we work with organisations all throughout Rochdale and Manchester to help their people reach financial goals. After over three decades of work in savings and loans, we’ve built a highly skilled team capable of finding the right solutions and offering the best services for every member who joins.

Thanks to our experience in the public sector, we’re used to helping members with wide-ranging professions and backgrounds. From carers to waste collectors, housing officers, and administrators, we’re the local council credit union that stays with you through thick and thin.

Our Areas of Expertise

We are a public sector credit union. Councils and local authorities are just one of our common bonds. We also specialise in health and social care as well as teaching and education. Browse our other sectors on the link below, or get in touch with us if you don’t see your industry and find out if we can help you.

What We Offer

Loans

Whether it’s borrowing for a larger purchase or to help you through a difficult time, we offer loans to help our members through life’s twists and turns. From everyday loans to secured loans and debt consolidation, we work with you to help find the best loan with a practical repayment plan for your needs.

We know it’s important to have sight of all your expenses and be able to predict your cash flow. That’s why we’re upfront and transparent about everything we do. There are no hidden fees or surprises down the line. We’re on your team at all times.

Savings

Our Rochdale Council members watch their savings grow when they join Metro Moneywise. We offer saving plans where your employer deposits a monthly share of your wages directly into savings account every time you get paid, so there’s no need for you to do anything at all.

Support is a big part of every member relationship, and we’re always on the other end of the phone or email if you have any questions. Our friendly team is great at explaining how things work, and our specialist advisors can assess your situation to ensure you get the most out of your membership.

Our Guidance & Money Saving Advice

From how to check your credit score to financial language explained, we cover it all in our advice and resources hub. As industry experts with over three decades under our belt, we’re more than happy to educate our members on what they need to know to get the most out of saving, budgeting, and loans.

As a member-owned credit union, we get a lot of feedback from our shareholders, which helps us understand what questions we need to answer to give you the most value. When we’re not providing advice one on one, visit our hub for helpful information that is easy to digest.

Who We Work With

Partners

We’re a cornerstone of Rochdale Local Authority, having payroll partnerships with Rochdale Council and Rochdale Boroughwide Housing. Between these two organisations, we support over 1,100 members with savings, loans, advice, and resources.

With 59% of employees in the UK admitting that money worries negatively impact their productivity at work, we intend to improve workplace wellbeing, member by member, through support, education, and information. Our partners love working with us because we help their staff feel comfortable and confident in work and life.

Members

When you save with a city council credit union, you’re not just another customer like in high street banks. You become a shareholder in the company. We want your input on the choices we make, and you have a vote in our annual meeting.

We build loyal relationships with our members for life, too. Even if you change employer in the future, it won’t affect your membership with us. We know our members care for their families with their savings and loans, too, so we welcome family members over 16 years old to join us.
